The church of Santo Adriano de Tuñón that dates from 891 appears located in the council of Santo Adriano, to 23 kilometers of Oviedo in a natural of incredible beauty and connected place with the footpath of the Bear which it runs through the Asturian councils of Santo Adriano, Proaza, Teverga and Quirós, can be taken about twenty minutes by a highway whose layout takes advantage of the one a coal railroad that during almost a century the mineral of Quirós and Teverga transported until Trubia, in the valley of the Nalón. We arrived at the town and before entering we see the temple just the left and a beautiful parking of free use opposite, to the other side of the highway; he is preferable to be walking until the church. This photography corresponds to the North face in a noticeable backlighting in which we see the mud wall of the leaned cemetery the temple. This temple, constructed by Alfonso III and his wife, queen Jimena, on an old benedictine convent, consecrated in year 891 by the bishops of Oviedo, Iria, Coimbra and recovered Astorga and in 1108 by initiative of Pelayo, bishop of Oviedo. Alfonso III the Magno, last king of the monarchy astur, dedicates the church to the Adriano martyrs (Roman official) and to their Natalia wife. Santo Adriano de Tuñón is declared national monument in June of 1931; years later (1949-1954), the temple again will be renewed. Up to here everything is historical data but first that surprise is the sobriety, even poverty, to be a construction of real protection, I believe that in the aesthetic aspect it fits better like typically rural construction. In the superior takings we later see the western face of the church with one espadaña added like in so many cases. The access door that does not show architectonic details of interest. In these is the southern face, being observed the noticeable longitudinal aspect due to ample nartex and marking clearly the beginning of the ships. We can concisely describe as of basilical plant with three ships and tripartite head as it is norm in the Asturian art. The penitenciales cameras that cockpits flank nartex both as well as, next to the head are marked the outside as much, that constitute sacristías or pastoforias; also we appreciated the greater height of the central ship that allows the existence of the body of lights, claristorios or windows closed by lattice windows with circles that frame crossings or squares and a triple arches that usually is the representation of the celestial Jerusalem.
In the inferior image we see what it is possible to be photographed of the head, since it is not possible to take distance from her by disabilities (the fence one of a next property) I tell you that one is a straight wall that includes the tripartite head reason why of the single apse it emphasizes the window of arc of average point and a small lattice window with cross kick enrolled in a circle.. In this visit I have to emphasize the tozudez of the person in charge to open the door and to tell to a roll without sense of history and characteristics of the church, insisting in which the cameras are left or of video within the car since the photos of the tourists, although they are made without flash, they are those who damage paintings and not it enormous humidity and state of abandonment that "shines" the interior.
